Stuck at Home? Get Started on Spring Cleaning with These House Cleaning Tips!

elliot • Apr 30, 2020

Whether you’re working from home or simply staying in your house more often right now, we understand that you might be scratching your head thinking of activities you can do.

You’ve already binge-watched the best shows on Netflix, you’ve gone through your bread baking phase , and now you’re left staring at your phone looking at Instagram.

While you’re stuck at home, one of the best ways to stay productive and have you feeling better in your space is to get started with spring cleaning!

It’s perhaps especially important right now since you’re home a lot. You may be thinking to yourself, “ when did my white grout turn brown?

In this post, we’re going over a few of our favorite house cleaning tips that can help you get started on spring cleaning and keep your home feeling fresh all year long.

Go Room by Room

In order to make house cleaning tips and spring cleaning feel a little less daunting, we recommend you clean room by room.

This makes the process a bit more organized. Not only that, but it will keep you from getting burnt out as you’ll be able to focus on a single room at a time before moving on to the next room when you’re ready.

This also helps you tackle each room based on that area’s specific needs. You’re not going to have the same cleaning tasks in your bedroom as you do in the guest bathroom, after all.

Going room by room keeps things efficient and ensures that your entire house gets the attention it deserves.

Go Top to Bottom

While you’re cleaning room by room, we also recommend cleaning each room from top to bottom.

Why?

Imagine this: you just got done vacuuming the carpet in the guest room only to move on to dusting the ceiling fan & dresser and stripping the bed of the old sheets.

Now all of the dust, grime, and other stuff from these other cleaning tasks are going to get all over your clean floor… making it dirty again.

If you start at the top of the room, any debris or dirt will fall to the floor. Then, when you’re cleaning the floors, you’ll also clean up that stuff in one fell swoop. Easy and efficient!

Deep Cleaning Your Floors

Don’t underestimate how important nice clean floors are for the overall feel of your home… and your feet!

Remember the day when you had your natural stone tiles installed and they were so bright, shiny, and luxurious? You can get those days back with proper cleaning and consistent maintenance!

This means your cleaning your bathroom floor , kitchen floor , mudroom, laundry room, living room, etc.

It’s important to follow the proper cleaning methods for each flooring type as there will be different specifications depending on the material, type, and damage that the flooring has.

At Tiles Plus More, we carry a number of different and high-quality cleaning & maintenance products for various flooring types. Our experts can help you choose which ones are best for your needs so you can get to work!

We know it sounds like it will be a lot of work to tailor your cleaning method to each flooring type you have. And that’s because it is a lot of work!

But, it’s worth it when you see your floors looking as good as new without damages thanks to improper cleaning.

Reduce the “Stuff”

Spring cleaning shouldn’t end with cleaning. It’s also a great time to declutter and get rid of items & clothes that you don’t use or need anymore.

Have the entire family get in on this. Everyone should go through their closet and drawers and get rid of anything they haven’t worn in the last 6 months.

Fun Clothing Hack

A fun way to prepare for next spring is to hang the clothes you plan on keeping facing towards you. AKA the hooks on the hangers should be facing you when you hang them.

When you wear these items, switch the hangers to face away from you. Next spring, you will be able to see the clothes you haven’t worn all year. Those items can easily be tossed in the donation pile!

You can also go through your plates, mugs (they seem to always pile up, don’t they?), books, toys, and anything else that you no longer use or need.

For the kids, they should also get rid of anything that doesn’t fit anymore that they’ve grown out of (clothes and toys alike!).

Try telling your kids “we won’t have room for new toys.” That seems to help them decide what they’d really love to keep so they can make room for new things they want.

Give these things away to charities or those who need it to clean your house and help you feel good!

Set Up a New Cleaning Routine

One of our favorite house cleaning tips to make this work last the entire year is to set up a new cleaning routine and schedule.

You don’t want all of this hard work to go to waste by slacking on bathroom floor repair & maintenance or failing to clean your kitchen again for another 6 months.

Creating an easy to follow maintenance and cleaning schedule or checklist will keep your home looking and feeling clean for much longer. It will also make the next spring cleaning that much easier.
